| 4:47p | Meet the new boss, same as the old boss I am very aware of how much of a cliche that is at this point. Whatevs. LJ is no longer offering Basic accounts. Either you sign up for ads, or you slap down a credit card. This is hardly the most skank thing that LJ has done-that would be swinging the banhammer with such abandon this summer in the first place-but I can't say that the complete lack of any and all communication on this front beforehand is heartening. I still think that the LJ talking heads fundamentally misunderstand how this place works and why it's popular: people don't pay money for the raw services, they pay money to more easily access the content produced by other users. When this place makes it difficult or unappealing to host content here? (Banhammering, douchey business practices.) They aren't just being ethically dodgy, they're being outright stupid. To recap: if it weren't for my inability to throw all of you over my shoulder and march off, I would be long gone to IJ. Current Mood:  irritated |
